Key Sections of your Design System: Part 3

Part three. Design system image.

Here is the final part in our key sections series! There are so many things you can include in you design system, and these are just a few of them.

Accessibility Standards: Ensuring your design system is accessible to all users is imperative. Document accessibility guidelines, including keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, and other ADA compliance considerations.

Developer Documentation: For your system to be effective, it must be developer-friendly. Include comprehensive documentation on how to implement components, integrate styles, and use design tokens. Offering code examples, code snippets, and version control instructions streamlines the development process.

Contributor Guidelines: If your system is open-source or collaborative, provide contributor guidelines. This section should detail how external designers and developers can contribute to the system while adhering to established standards.

Case Studies and Examples: Showcasing real-world applications helps users understand its potential. Include case studies and examples that demonstrate how the design system has been successfully implemented across different projects.

Version Control and Updates: Design systems evolve alongside design trends and technological advancements. Include a section outlining version control practices and how updates are managed, ensuring that users always have access to the latest improvements.

We want to know what else you would include! Do you have all of these sections documented, or are you just starting to develop your design system? Also, what would you like to learn more about?
