Announcing the Amplify webinar series

Based on our How We Document 2023 report, the design system community isn’t very diverse. The typically marginalized populations in tech are further underrepresented in the design system community. The only exception is women (41% vs. 26% for the industry as a whole).

Design systems are foundational to products. Without diversity, teams are likely to miss perspectives they need to consider. When perspectives are missing in a design system, the effects extend across product portfolios and then to customer experiences.

As a community, we need to do a better job of broadening representation in our teams.

Amplify is a zeroheight webinar series that aims to change that and inspire others in the community to take action. In the series, we’ll highlight design, development, and content practitioners actively seeking to evolve the space. Discussions will focus on awareness, action, hiring, and thriving together.

We’ll host webinars during heritage or celebration months for each community.

• March: Women’s History Month
• April: Arab American Heritage Month
• May: Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month
• June: LGBTQIA+ Pride
• September/October: Latinx Heritage Month
• October: Black History Month
• November: Indigenous People’s Heritage Month

Our very own design advocate, Michelle Chin, will host the webinars. She has a passion for environmental justice and leads our DEI committee. Michelle will facilitate a discussion among our guest panelists, and there will be time for the audience to ask questions.
