Meet the team: Paul

What do you do at zeroheight?

I am a software engineer here at zeroheight. I joined nearly two years ago as the second engineer and have loved watching the team and product grow and mature. Day to day, I write code to create new features for product development and improve what’s already on offer. I get to work closely with our incredible design team and product managers, which I love. I also manage a couple of our talented engineers.

What excites you most about the future of designops?

Developers have so many fantastic automation tools and processes. DesignOps for me, is about creating the same ecosystem for software engineers and designers. DesignOps has the potential to increase the time our designers spend doing meaningful work, focusing on what they’re good at and what they love doing. It’s a really exciting problem to be solving.

We already have tokens to easily share your design changes directly from Figma to your developers (in the language they speak). We have so many ideas of ways to better the processes around design and development. We’re still only scratching the surface of what we can offer our users. It’s exciting times.

What album, book and luxury item would you take if you were marooned on a desert island?

The album I’d pick would be Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel. I’ve never grown sick of it, and it reminds me of so many great things in my life, my dad, old friends, and good times.

Choosing a book is more challenging. I’m a very slow reader, so it’s never been my go-to medium; that being said, I’d bring Ulysses by James Joyce. I’m never going to read it otherwise, and it would keep me entertained for a loooooong time.

A luxury item is easy to choose: a knife, specifically an 18cm Chinese chef’s cleaver. It’s my favorite item in my house. I promise to only use it as a luxury to enjoy cooking more and not for anything practical.

What are you terrible at?

Singing. I cannot hit a note, and I have no idea how to control the pitch of my voice. People think it’s funny to teach me, but then it’s embarrassing and sad for everyone involved. Karaoke is my nightmare.
